1703 POWER Five Year Hardship Extensions

A. Understand assistance units approaching the five year benefit limit, excluding Tribal cases, will be reviewed by DFS-SO at 53 months to determine if a hardship extension should be granted.
B. Notify DFS-SO when an assistance unit is within six months of the five year benefit limit and has received benefits from another state as these will not appear on the computerized list.
C. Feel free to make a recommendation concerning whether a hardship extension should or should not be granted.
D. Accept the decision and take the appropriate action stated in the notification.
E. Understand compliance with eligibility and child support requirements continues to be required.
F. Understand compliance with the DWS continues to be required unless otherwise stated in the notification.
G. Terminate the extension when noncompliance occurs as the extension privilege has been lost.
H. Require the assistance unit to reapply for the extension and notify DFS-SO of the reapplication so a re-review can be performed and a new determination made.
I. Continue Family Care (AF-related) benefits when the assistance unit remains eligible for that coverage group and code the adult(s) with the medical subtype “TD” on MERE. (42 CFR 435)
